I sometimes read SF books although it usually takes me a long time to
finish as I'm mostly a serious guy ;)

My record is probably something around two years..  I'm far from being
in a position to give any advice but I like what I've read from Greg
Bear[1], Greg Egan[2], Charles Stross[3] and Vernor Vinge[4].
