2D waveguides
(Not dated. From problems.tex)
In one dimension, the solution of the wave equation can be split into
two traveling wave equations, which can be easily discretizised using
waveguides. In more dimensions, this doesn't work. How to work around
that? Basically, I'd like to know what exactly is the complexity and
error trade--off for simulating 2D and 3D waves. Probably, the only
way to do this is using finite element methods, but, there must be
some hacks floating in nD hack space.
