From Wow! back to normal.

This happens to me quite often: I'm trying to solve some problem I
can't get a handle on.. Then by manipulating it, I am eventually able
to place the _problem_ into a larger picture which then leads to a
very elegant solution. This makes me very excited ("This is going to
change the world!") until I place the _solution_ itself into a wider
context, and see that it isn't so special after all.

All that happened is making an (initially) non-trivial link between
two distinct representations of knowledge. Once the link is there,
the whole thing seems trivial and boring, because this jolt of insight
changed the way I'm thinking about the subject.

I guess this is why I love math. It turns me into a hero for 5
seconds, and then places my feet back on the ground to go looking for
more hits.
