OpenWRT + Debian: kernel only?

I'm thinking that it might be a better idea to only use openwrt for
the kernel, and then boot into debian as in [1], instead of using a
dual system with chroot hacks.

Maybe it's best to start from scratch for this, and automate the

- 15c160f8b3f8aef2e696c2b30fc07dfd1bafca6d enabled most non-fixed-HW modules
- io make IGNORE_ERRORS=m -j6
- save trx + kernel modules somewhere safe so they wont be overwritten next time
