Probably because the string created in java-string isn't a local ref
and can't be freed as such?
I need to do this differently... The current design is not very
controllable. Maybe it's best to make sure nowhere in the C code
there is ever any local reference visible, then see how far that gets.
A mix of java and C code is probably going to be best. C side only
sees global refs and only objects, then use the reflection API on the
Java side to do all the work.
