Trusted sandboxed network

How to set up a distributed trusted network?

Problem is that typically with one malicious node, the whole can be
compromised. So it might be good to also sandbox this on a linux
host:

- per host:
  - isolated user
  - chroot or vm

It seems best to stick to TCP for distribution.

How to set up a series of nodes that can trust each other and have
encryption?

How to do this without requiring root access?

Maybe SSL is actually a lot simpler.
But how does the handshake actually work? Is spoofing a problem?

Does it need a monoculture?
