Compiling FRP to state machines

FRP (playing with functions of time) seem to be a nice way to
construct any kind of "choreography", being it animation, music, user
interface, ...

State machines are a de-facto way of representing reactive systems in
a low-level, low-resource form.

Is there a way to connect both?

Maybe it's time to read Conal's paper[1] again..
